George Z. visits Downunder!

At the invitation and sponsorship of Peter Rutten & Tony Midson of De-Sharvarll Polish Arabians, George Z. spent a week in November “Downunder” visiting with them in Queensland, Australia. It was a great time for all of us. Not only did George get to view our Arabians and talk horses as was planned, he got to see some of the local sites and experience some good Aussie hospitality. This included a famous Aussie BBQ with a few friends on George’s last day, but with the added Peter Rutten flair – the steaks were 3 inches thick!

During the week Team De-Sharvarll took George to see the famous beaches of the Gold Coast and to visit up close and personal with some of our exotic and unique wild  life at the world famous Australia Zoo founded by “The Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin and his family. He also got to see the unusual and beautiful Glasshouse Mountains of the lower Sunshine Coast hinterland and enjoy a coffee on the summit of the Blackall Range with a pectacular view east to the coast and the Coral Sea.

There was lots of discussion about Arabian horses including the vision and goals of the De-Sharvarll program, but there was also lots of laughter and camaraderie as anyone who has spent social time with George knows. We were honored to have this delightful, generous and knowledgeable man share some time with us out of his very busy schedule. We now include him as part of the De-Sharvarll family of special friends.

Here are a few photos taken during George’s stay ..

Sad News! - Complications from EI Virus

To all our friends and fellow horse breeders. We at De-Sharvarll Arabians are deeply shocked and saddened to announce that today (October 9th.) we have lost one of our most precious Pure Polish broodmares ....

IN MEMORIUM
photo just weeks prior to foaling

Gedye Lattika
1988 - 2007
[*Khundjur x Lamexa by *Mexi]

Lattika was our senior matron and the only daughter of Lamexa [*Mexi x Lambitia by *Ambition]. A truly elegant mare of old world beauty and type, size and substance, plus a soft, gentle temperament with an irreplaceable pedigree.

In spite of all precautions she was one of the first of our herd to began showing symptoms of EI infection at the end of last week and just a few days after foaling. Whilst she did not run a temperature, she did manifiest the intermittent deep wracking cough that this disease causes. We believe that it was this cough and the associated irritation the virus can have upon the hind gut that caused the bowel torsion which necessitated her being euthanized. We were most fortunate to find someone with experience in orphaned foals to take her 6 day old Vox colt to try and save him. The DPI have issued a permit for his transport in order to give him the best fighting chance. De-Sharvarll is fortunate to have her 2005 pure Polish filly De-Sharvarll Eyelyka by Bittersweet by *Creme Dynasty.

We are told that EI in itself is not a killer virus, but the complications associated with it ARE! Our deepest sympathies to all those others who have lost horses due to complications from or compounded by this unmitigated disaster.

Team De-Sharvarll ..

News from Canterbury Farm Polish Arabians

Tom and Debbie Whelan visited Canterbury Farm and found some friends. We now call Tom "The Foal Magnet" The foals obviously know good people when they see them! The Whelans have traveled to Poland where we first met. They raise Welch ponies and Welch/Arabian cross horses as well as Arabians. Absolutely delightful people with great sense of humor. Debbie is an Anesthesiologist and the twinkle in the eye is reflected in their email address of "Gaspasser". Their farm is in North Carolina.

Foals in the photo are by *Wojslaw and *Goliat. Grey filly is Wieczoreka by *Wojslaw x Wytwornicja by *Bandos, granddaughter of *Wieczorynka, my first Polish import made in 1983. Others are somewhat unidentifiable but good legs and hindquarters! Yes, they do have tails! Super crop of foals this year.

Second Annual Summer/Fall Sale is going on now at Canterbury Farm where there are a number of fine horses of all ages and sexes available during the sale. So far there have been eight sold already. Come see these horses as well as others for available for purchase.

Thank you to all the special people who have purchased horses from our program so far in 2007. These people include:

Frank and Carole Hennessey, FL, for purchasing Zorandze (*Goliat x Zabrina VF by Wizjon), Ekzotyka (*Goliat x *Edessa PASB by *Wojslaw) and *Ekstazia (*Eukaliptus x *Elwara by *Arbil). These girls could not have gone to a better home, and I understand that they are greeted each day by Frank and Carole while they sip their morning coffee.
Patti Murphy of Episodes Arabians, VA, for her purchase of Elikzir (*Ganges x Ularia by Wizjon) and Genesys (*Ganges x *Genewila by *Wilkolak)
Carole Raike from Ohio, for acquiring Prado CF (*Ganges x Pasterka by *Algomej), Wermeer (*Ganges x *Wijenna by Tallin), and Eleatik (*Ganges x MWF Ultima by *Europejczyk)
Debi, Anne and Chuck Eure, NC, for their purchase of *Mazurka (Eldon x *Montana by *Wojslaw) to join their other Canterbury horses of previous years.
Virginia Carey soon to be in Idaho for her long term dream of owning Alegory (*Goliat x *Algebra by *Ellorus) and having the dream come true.
Angela Mullins, Ohio, for falling in love with Cyklikal (*Ganges x *Eurokina by *Europejczyk) and she is thrilled with him.
Lisa Olsen, MD, who just purchased the weanling orphan colt Sobieski (*Goliat x *Sieniawa by *Probat). This colt lost his mother at 7 hours old and he was raised by Dansel Pinata, a wonderful 29 year old *El Paso daughter.
Helen Slater, VA, who gathered into her program the big bold Fellanaka (*Ganges x Fellana by *Bandos) in foal to *Equifor (*Gazal al Shaqab x *Eqviria).
Glynn Farmer, NM, a great guy with a deep love for the Arabian horse has taken two more Canterbury horses to Albuquerque joining the previously purchased Zlota Zadymka (*Ganges x Zjawa by *Algomej). These two are the filly Entycja (*Ganges x Ekspedycja by *Goliat) and the handsome young stallion, Peking CF (*Wojslaw x Pangaea by *Goliat).
Sara Chigaris and Diane Sawyer, NC, selected the tall, blackbay stallion Alken (*Ganges x Alkina by *Algomej) for their show string and sire.
Karen Witt, CO, is now the new owner of Ekskwizit (*Goliat x *Edessa PASB by *Wojslaw) a gelding soon to be seen in polocross and on the trails in the Rockies.

And thank you to all the people who have bred to the Canterbury Farm stallions: *Equifor, *Goliat, Gauguin and Prowidenz. We are still breeding mares for clients, so when we wrap up the season, the list will be posted.

This has been a wonderful year of seeing friends and getting new ones as well. We wish all the best with these horses and to see their dreams become reality.

Eksport — 1994 - 2007

The beautiful stallion Eksport crossed over the rainbow bridge last Wednesday night at Rach Stud.

Eksport (Europejczyk x Esparceta) was born in 1994 at Janow Stud as one of the very best sons of international sire of significance EUROPEJCZYK.

He was bought by the Saliba family in 1999 and sired beautiful foals, who were halter winners for the Rach Stud (Brazil). (http://www.rachstud.com.br/ilha_site/paginas/index.htm)

He became Brazilian National Champion Stallion in 2005.

Our condolences to all who loved Eksport!

News from Phantom Canyon Arabians

Phantom Canyon Arabians is happy to make the following announcement:

After what seems like a lifetime, we have purchased the Pure Polish mare, Cerrah.  She is by one of my very favorite Stallions, Gallup, a Gdansk son, out of a Bandos daughter.  Her dam was a beautiful bay Caracyn daughter.

"The pure Polish mare, Cerrah, has a fascinating pedigree and is a superb blending of bloodlines of many of Poland's greats.  One can pick a starting point at virtually any place in her pedigree and know that the individual chosen is first rate."
- John Schiewe

Now we want to share and celebrate MORE fantastic news!  Cerrah has been checked in foal for 2008 to the remarkable stallion, Andrzejevo!

"Andrzejevo has been in his new home for more then a year.  We couldn't be any prouder or more excited about his ability to produce both halter and performance champions.  We knew he was a tall, handsome stallion with impeccable bloodlines who has claimed many championships in both halter and performance himself.  More importantly, he has consistently produces a high percentage of offspring that have also been successful in both halter and performance themselves.  That is really the true test for a breeding stallion."
- John Schiewe

We want to personally thank the entire crew of people that made this all possible!  This is my once in a lifetime breeding and it is really a dream come true.

News from Alphalea Arabians, Yeedalong Farm

I just thought I would share some pics of our colt foal sired by Valor (TR Viktor (Nariadni/Muscat cross) x El Shaklan/Egyptian/Polish mare. Out of our Padrons Psyche daughter who's tail female line goes back to Eleonora (Witraz Zmora).  Isn't it interesting that breeders the world over somehow connect their horses pedigrees in a similar manner despite not having any direct connection with each other!

US Bred Mare Wins the Polish Derby, July 22, 2007 - 2nd leg of the Triple Crown!

Longin Blochut walking with Orgia Fata.   Photos by Mrs. E. Twarog.

US Bred Mare Wins the Polish Derby, July 22, 2007 - 2nd leg of the Triple Crown!

Fantastic news! Longin Blachut (current owner) writes that Orgia Fata, bred at Harizan Farms, USA, just won the Polish Derby, the second leg of the triple crown. She is out of HF Olympia (winner of four stakes including the California Oaks) - Monarch Ah out of the Polish triple crown winning mare, *Orgia.

If she wins the Oaks on September 9th she will be the first US bred mare to win the Polish triple crown!

Longin states: "Orgia Fata easily won the Derby today 3' 34''8, distance 3000 meters turf , track heavy just after a terrible rain storm. Time field of 13 of which 9 stallions and 4 mares. She is now the 12th mare that in the long 80 years racing tradition has won two parts of the triple crown. She has the chance to become the triple crown winner if she wins the Oaks on the Sept 9th!

Rick states: "We'll be there for the race in September. We're excited about being part of a potentially history making event and sharing that with you. This is really fantastic. Hope those who are going for the sale will have a chance to see her!"

Wintersteen Arabian's Chief Sire WA Pejczyk Sires Regional Champion in Sport Horse

Pure Polish stallion WA Pejczyk became a regional champion sire July 3rd when WA Borkata was named Reserve Champion Mare In Hand both Open and AOTH! Borkata was shown to both championships by 14 year old and 3rd generation Wintersteen horseman Kara Wintersteen. Kara was attending her first Sport Horse show and is the bright future of Wintersteen Arabians! Borkata is out of the Polish import *Boruta (Alegro x Borowina/ Etap) who was lost to colic soon after Borkata's birth making this win very special for the farm. The three year old filly was taking a weekend off from training at Arapahoe Park preparing for her first race. She is expected to make her first start later this month and will be soon back to galloping at the track. Also the Pejczyk progeny Allysah, 3 year old gelding out of Brazilian import *Allysia HCF, and Sugar nd Spice, 3 year old filly out of *Elimar daughter MHR Sweet Dreams, also went Top Five in both of their respective divisions for owner Ann Carvalho.

In addition to Regional success, Pejczyk also sired a one-two sweep in the first ever Colorado Breeders Cup Sport Horse in Hand with Allyshah and Borkata respectively. The championship was decided as an accumulation of points from the both the Open and AOTH regional pre-show classes for all genders. The Pejczyk gelding Allyshah shown by owner Ann Carvalho topped the largest field of CBC entries to date for any CBC class to win the Sport Horse in Hand Championship with Borkata being named Reserve Champion. Sugar nd Spice was named to the Top 5.

Borkata was originally not planning on being in Estes Park, instead preparing to race in the July 8th Colorado Breeders Cup Race at Arapahoe Park. "She is doing everything right at the track, but I saw we were really going to being pushing it make that race," outlines her trainer Jeff Wintersteen. "She represents an extremely valuable dam line to the farm, I just knew that wasn't the right thing to be doing so we switched to plan B. I really thought she would do well in Sport Horse, this filly just has no holes." After winning the CBC Reserve Championship and placing 2nd out of 11 entrants - just .5 behind the win - in the pre-show, the family huddled and again switched up the plan. "We re-scheduled some gallops at the track and decided to stay and take a shot at a regional title, we couldn't be happier the way it worked out," finishes Jeff.

"This is really the result of some good fortune four years ago," adds Bob Wintersteen. "We know mares are the foundation to any successful stallion, and we worked hard to get Pejczyk some goods ones that we thought would cross well. When we had an opportunity to lease *Boruta, we jumped at it. We are all proud that Pejczyk really stepped up when he had that opportunity."

Canterbury Farm News

3 mares sold to Hennessey Arabians, LLC, including 2 *Goliat daughters!!

Please check out hennesseyarabians.com and click on NEWS then to New Horses.

Thank you and congratulations to Frank and Carol for selecting these three gorgeous mares and to George Zbyszewski for putting together this sale. These are treasured ladies, and I am happy that they are going to such a wonderful and beautiful home of their new owners who truly love their horses.

*Goliat has proven himself to be the premier *Eukaliptus son in the US. These two daughters, along with the *Eukaliptus mare, will find themselves in fine company in Ocala and graze in lush fields with the fine mares the Hennessey's have brought back from Poland.

It is always a gratifying experience to have one's horses shared by those who are in the Arabian business who know and appreciate quality, but most of all who are in it because they have true love, compassion, and respect for these animals that have survived and flourished through the darkest times of world history. These horses deserve nothing but the best of care and admiration.

I am so pleased to be a part of the rising star of Hennessey Arabians, LLC...class in all senses of the word.

Brilliance SF Retires, to Join Broodmare Band At Wintersteen Arabians

Wintersteen Arabians proudly announces the addition of Brilliance SF to their broodmare band after her recent retirement from racing. The 15.1+ hand bay daughter of legendary *Pepton has been racing in the Wintersteen colors since fall 2004. The speedy and elegant mare proved her merit through 16 starts, hitting the board 7 times including a gate to wire win at Retama Park last fall. Though also campaigned in Colorado, Brilliance showed a particular fondness for Texas, getting up for third in her second career start at Sam Houston, to never being worse than second on her three races last fall. Like her sire, Brilliances preferred running style was on the lead. Her amazing turn of foot was also evident in her morning works, often bettering Thoroughbred times.

Brilliance has given everything she has to me, I am really proud of her, relates Jeff. Her last couple outs she has been tieing up in the race, something that has plagued her career on and off. At one point we thought we had addressed this, but it is back. We could spend some time and try fix it, but she is seven years old now, given us 16 starts, and I just dont want to put her through that. She is sound, happy, and still loves her job -- really attacks her morning training -- but I want to do right by her. I think she will also relish her career as a broodmare. I am really proud of what she has accomplished. Poland has always used the racetrack to prove courage and soundness as merit to being used in the breeding shed. In this regard, she has nothing left to prove. Brilliance is the epitome of athletic beauty, really the complete package.

Trainer Liz Brand, echos Jeffs sentiments, Brilliance is as fast and talented as I have ever had. When she was on there wasnt a lot going to catch her. Brilliance is so sweet and smart, I am going to miss having her around, but I am looking forward to her foals.

Brilliance SF was bred by George Altenberg in Sebastapol California and purchased as a two year old by Jeff Wintersteen. She is second generation from Georges farm, as he also bred her dam Brillant Light who is by *Probat and out of the English Pleasure Champion *Bask daughter Bold Brilliance. Her dam line of Carmen is the same as legendary Comet, along with later show ring sensations *Kawalkalda, *Kwestura, and *Kordelas.

Brilliance has been turned out to pasture on the Wintersteens 70 acre farm and will be bred in 2008. As of now, Brilliances future mating is as of yet, undecided.

Please click on the following photo or link to view more of Brilliance, including video and races:

New Stallion at ASA Farm LLC, Bonne Vivant

According to Polish Arabian expert, Tomasz Skotnicki, "This Pure Polish stallion is a *Bask++ look alike! ...and bred to the top!"  He continues, "This pedigree with Amurath Sahib (sire of Arax and Balalajka -dam of *Bask++ and Bandola) with *Bask++ on top as sire of Negatraz and sire of Bonfieree(x *Boltonka++) on the female side, as well as *Bask++'s full sister Bandola, twice Negatiw etc. is difficult to match! The horse is bred close to *Bask++ and has similar movement and character... it is amazing coming from someone who still remembers well the "Great One"! This horse should be a breeders dream for a Pure Polish Program! Take the opportunity and make history!”

BONNE VIVANT, with his long upright neck, beautiful face, correct structure, and a stylish, confident, animated trot, was the answer to our prayers, we hope he is for yours...

New 2007 Ontario HF Filly for Wintersteen Arabians!

A very special filly was born April 3, 2007 at Wintersteen Arabians. The elegant gray filly is out of Phyllan (by *Bancock) dam of our stallion WA Pejczyk, making her a half sister. The filly is by Ontario HF (Monarch AH x Orzonna HF by *Pepton), Darley 4 Year Old of the Year, ARC Sprint Champion and one of the greatest race horses of his generation. This is one of his first—and last—foals on U.S. soil as he recently was exported to Poland. He bred about 6 mares last year.

"She is very typey, long neck and incredible shoulder," notes Bonnie. "We are excited she is a filly!"

"I am super excited about her initial quality. I really think that Ontario is the best Monarch son—gorgeous with a pedigree to boot. His dam was a *Pepton daughter, halter champion and stakes winner—not to mention Orgia dam line. We really felt he was ignored here, I think he maybe something special for Poland", adds Jeff. "Phyllan was a proven producer, both in halter and the track so she was the obvious choice."

Love N' War Arabians — Denton, Texas

Dynamika and Dynamis
MS Firedevil

Breeders of Pure/Predominantly Polish Arabians since 1978. Also, Syndicate share holders of Gdansk+/ before his death, breeders of 17 Gdansk+/ foals, 12 of which where colts. Still have two producing daughters, several granddaughters.

I also owned the *Bask++ son Dynamis out of a daughter of the Comet son *Zbrucz. He was Lasma bred, the last foal crop of *Bask++, (1980). Dynamis passed away in 2003, but can still be seen in Love N' War pastures thru his sons, daughters and grandget...he is sadly missed.

In 2003 for an out cross we purchased two *Wiking sons, Gawn and ET Wiking (no *Bask++), we are very pleased with the resulting foals.

In 2006 MS Firedevil (Padrons Psyche x Aerial Fire Echo) joined the breeding program. His Dam is by Gdansk+/ out of a *Fortel Daughter which is a very exciting pedigree. MS Firedevil is in performance training and will be shown in Western Pleasure in 2007. He has 15 foals thus far, and will breed a limited number of mares in 2007. He will be available to the public this year via shipped semen, his stud fee is $1500.

Also in 2006 we purchased two Ganges sons from Canterbury Farms...

Fargo CF (Ganges x Faza CF) — 2004 grey stallion. He is showing great promise as a Western horse and is training at Venture Farms.

Panasz (Ganges x Palapejczyk) — 2005 bay stallion. He is currently just growing up in the pasture with the other 2 year olds.

We also have several Old Pure Polish bloodline colts and fillies available and, predominately Polish youngsters that are available for purchase.

Many can be seen on our website: www.lovenwararabians.com

Enspyrr is linebred in the dam line of Woloszka through the imported mare Etelka who was a granddaughter of Polish mare of distinction Etna, with his dam being an own daughter of *Etelka (Imp.UK, Exp/Imp.USA) and Vox being a great grandson of Etelka. His newborn pix speak for themselves. All we can say is "WOW .. WHAT A COLT" !! He has it all .. including the genetic prepotency to carry it forward. What an incredible way to end the 2006 foaling season.

Arbil — Banat x Arba, 1981-2007

ArbilIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of ARBIL. We received this email from Jacqueline, Arbil's trusted keeper, earlier today:

Today was a very, very sad one. I lost a friend today. To my regret I must tell you that Arbil passed away unexpectedly and suddenly this afternoon, he was however very healthy and happy to the last minute. I am very sorry to have lost him as he was very, very dear and very special to me. Fortunately he left a very wonderful filly here.

Best regards,
Jacqueline

From the Janow website:
